Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is a large, hairy, bipedal ape-like creature purportedly inhabiting forests and mountains, mainly in the Pacific Northwest region of North America.
In North America, no large apes are known to exist. Yet the Bigfoot figure is common to the folklore of most Northwest Native American tribes and for centuries, reports of a giant man have been recorded. Ancient Native American stories talk about the presence of a protective, hairy man who acts as a go-between with nature.
US President Teddy Roosevelt wrote about such a hairy being in his 1892 book, The Wilderness Hunter. One man claimed to have been kidnapped by a family of such creatures in 1924. In October 1967, two men were hunting for the monster in northern California. They were not only lucky to spot Bigfoot, but they were even luckier because they filmed him. The story received national coverage in the press, and started the whole Bigfoot mythos as we know it.
Over the years the creature has been examined and exploited in many ways from in-depth magazine essays to television shows and serious scientific inquiries. Through it all one question still remains.
Does such an animal exist and remains undiscovered by modern science or is Bigfoot a hoax of gargantuan proportions that has continued for hundreds of years?.
